Genuine Zebra 800033-801 ix Series monochrome ribbon: black resin, 1000 images, for the ZXP Series 3. For any card that carries text, a barcode and a black logo but no photograph, this gives roughly three and a half times the yield of a colour ribbon at a much lower price. Black resin also produces sharper edges than the black panel of a colour ribbon, which matters for scannable barcodes.

Resin is deposited on the card surface with hard edges rather than diffusing into it the way dye sublimation does, so fine text stays legible and barcode bars keep clean boundaries. If you have had scanning problems with barcodes printed from a colour ribbon, moving that element to a resin ribbon usually fixes it.
Worth considering. A YMCKO ribbon finishes each card with a clear overlay that seals the print; a mono ribbon does not, so the surface is more exposed to abrasion. Resin is tougher than dye to begin with, so this rarely matters for short-life passes. For a card handled daily over years, use a colour ribbon for the overlay or move to laminated composite stock.

Yes, if your ZXP Series 3 has the card flipper. A mono ribbon has no fixed front-and-back panel structure, so the printer simply uses more of the roll — a dual-sided black card consumes roughly two images from the 1000. That makes it a very economical way to produce cards with data on both faces.
