Synology RackStation RS422+ 4-Bay Short-Depth Rackmount NAS Enclosure
A four-bay 1U RackStation just 327.5 mm deep, for the shallow wall and AV cabinets a full-depth rackmount will not fit. AMD Ryzen R1600 with ECC memory, two Gigabit ports that aggregate, and a network upgrade slot that takes it to 10GbE. Supplied without drives — you choose and budget for those separately.
Quick Glance
Key Features
327.5 mm deep — it fits where others do not
A 1U chassis well under the depth of a standard rackmount NAS, for wall-mounted comms boxes, AV racks and the shallow cabinets common in fitted-out offices. It mounts directly to a 2-post rack, or to a 4-post rack with a rail kit.
Gigabit now, 10GbE when you need it
Two matched Gigabit ports that can be bonded by link aggregation, plus a PCIe Gen3 x2 network upgrade slot for Synology's E10G22-T1-Mini 10GbE module — a tenfold jump without replacing the unit.
ECC memory and four bays
Four bays reach RAID 6 and SHR-2, so a second drive can fail during a rebuild, and the ECC memory corrects single-bit errors in flight rather than writing them to disk.

Need-to-Know
- The RS422+ ships as a bare enclosure. Budget for up to four SATA drives on top, and check them against Synology's compatibility list before ordering — Synology only guarantees full functionality and support for drives on that list.
- Networking is Gigabit, not 2.5GbE. The two ports can be bonded for roughly 2 Gbps, and the PCIe slot takes a 10GbE module, but out of the box this is a slower network connection than Synology's current desktop models.
- Nothing for mounting is in the box, and neither are network cables. A 4-post rack needs a Synology RKM114 or RKS-02 rail kit, sold separately; 2-post racks take the unit directly.
- The operating temperature range stops at 35 °C, not the 40 °C of Synology's desktop models. Worth checking against the actual temperature inside a closed comms cabinet in a UAE summer.
- Synology publishes no memory expansion figure for this model — only the 2 GB of ECC fitted. Do not assume it can be upgraded; ask us and we will confirm before you order.
- The warranty is 3 years and can be extended to 5, but the extension SKU is regional: in the UAE that is EW201. 'Extended Warranty Plus' is sold only in Europe and North America.

Customer Benefits
- Fits the shallow wall cabinet you already have, instead of forcing a deeper rack.
- Four bays in RAID 6 or SHR-2 survive two drives failing.
- A 10GbE upgrade slot means the network is not what dates this unit.
- Btrfs snapshots roll a share back to a point in time, which is what actually saves you after ransomware.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. It is sold as a diskless enclosure, so you choose the drives to suit the capacity and budget you need. It takes up to four 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs. Synology only guarantees full functionality and support for drives on its compatibility list, so check there first — we are happy to quote validated Synology drives alongside the unit.
It is a 1U unit measuring 44 x 478 x 327.5 mm. The 327.5 mm depth is the point of this model — it suits shallow wall-mounted and AV cabinets that a full-depth rackmount will not fit. It mounts directly to a 2-post 19-inch rack; a 4-post rack needs a Synology RKM114 or RKS-02 rail kit, which is sold separately.
The RS422+ ships with two Gigabit ports rather than the 2.5GbE found on Synology's newer desktop models, and they can be bonded for roughly 2 Gbps. It does have a PCIe Gen3 x2 network upgrade slot, so fitting Synology's E10G22-T1-Mini module takes it to 10GbE. If the unit will serve a busy office from day one, budget for that module at the same time.
The operating range stops at 35 °C, where Synology's desktop models go to 40 °C. A closed, unventilated cabinet in a UAE summer can sit above that, so check the actual temperature at the unit rather than the room. Note also that no network cables or rails are supplied in the box — only the unit, an accessory pack, a power cord and the installation guide.
