Print and scan up to A3 / 11 × 17 in, with borderless printing right to the edge and HP's Expanded Colour Gamut on the 9700 series — the first wide-format printers HP says are capable of the Display P3 colour gamut, a wider range than sRGB. Floor plans, spreads and posters stop being a trip to the print shop.

Dual-Band Wi-Fi That Heals Itself

Built-in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with HP's self-heal solution that spots a dropped radio and brings it back without anyone walking over to the machine. Ethernet and Wi-Fi Direct are there too, so the printer goes where the desk is rather than where the network point is.

  • It does not fax. The 9730 prints, copies and scans. HP Middle East lists analog fax as not supported, so there is no fax modem and no telephone socket on the back.
  • The feeder does not take A3. The flatbed scans originals up to 297 × 432 mm, but the 35-sheet document feeder stops at 216 × 356 mm (Legal). A3 originals have to go on the glass, one at a time.
  • Dynamic security is enabled. The printer is intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip, and firmware updates keep blocking cartridges that use a non-HP chip. Budget for genuine HP 938 or 938e ink.
  • 500 sheets is the ceiling. Both 250-sheet trays are standard and HP publishes no optional third tray, no envelope feeder and no finisher for this model, so capacity cannot be expanded later.
  • HP rates it for 250 to 1,500 pages a month. The 30,000-page duty cycle is a peak figure, not a target; sustained volume above the recommended range belongs on a heavier machine.
  • HP AI needs separate software. The AI features HP promotes with this printer are not built into the machine — they need the optional HP AI software, the HP app and an HP account with an internet connection, and availability varies by country.
