HID FARGO Consumables · Genuine HDP Retransfer Film
HID FARGO 084500 Clear HDP Film for HDP5000 — approx. 1,500 Images
Genuine HID FARGO 084500 Clear HDP Film for the FARGO HDP5000 and HDP5000e — approximately 1,500 images per roll. This is the clear panelised film the printer prints onto and then fuses to the card. Without it a retransfer printer cannot print at all, and at roughly three ribbons per roll of film it is the item most often forgotten.
Key Features
The Half of Retransfer People Forget
A retransfer printer consumes ribbon and film together. At 500 images per YMCK ribbon and approximately 1,500 per film roll, one film covers about three ribbons — easy to under-order.
Prints Over Chips and Card Edges
Because the image is fused from film rather than printed onto the card, HID states retransfer produces vibrant 300 dpi images even on the surface of technology cards.
Durable and Tamper Resistant
HID describes the ribbon and film combination as producing durable and tamper-resistant cards — the fused film layer is part of what makes the credential hard to alter.
Detailed Specifications
- HID FARGO HDP5000 retransfer card printer / encoder
- HID FARGO HDP5000e retransfer card printer / encoder
- HID states this film is compatible with the HDP5000 (models 2008 and 2013 running firmware v5.4.5 or above) and the HDP5000e
- The HDP6600 uses a different film — HID lists 084900 for that printer. The two are not interchangeable
- Also sold in the UAE as 84053 — same film, same approximately 1,500 images. HID publishes no cross-reference between the two numbers, so tell us which one your records use and we will confirm the exact part before it ships

* Approximately 1,500 images is HID’s own published figure for this film. Retransfer film is not rated to an ISO yield standard.

Need-to-Know
HID makes HDP film in clear and holographic versions. The holographic film adds visible security to every card without a separate lamination step.

Frequently Asked Questions
The part number is on the roll and on the retail box. For the FARGO HDP5000 and HDP5000e, HID lists clear film as 084500; for the HDP6600 it is 084900. HID also notes the HDP5000 range requires models 2008 or 2013 on firmware v5.4.5 or above. Send us a photo of your printer on WhatsApp and we will confirm. HID writes this part number with a leading zero, 084500, but you will also see it written 84500 on invoices and supplier quotes — same film either way.
It is the clear film a retransfer printer prints onto before fusing the image to the card. High Definition Printing works in two stages — ribbon to film, film to card — which is what allows a full-bleed image over an uneven chip card surface. No film, no print.
At HID’s published yields, roughly one film to three ribbons: the YMCK ribbon 084511 gives 500 images and this film gives approximately 1,500. That ratio is why film gets under-ordered — worth checking your stock of both together.
No. HID lists 084500 for the HDP5000 and HDP5000e, and 084900 for the HDP6600 — the HDP6600 is a 600 dpi printer with its own film. Ordering across the two will leave you with a roll you cannot use.
HID states that FARGO card printers and encoders require highly specialised media to function properly, and that HID warranties are void, where not prohibited by law, when non-HID consumables are used. On a machine where the printhead is the expensive part, that is the whole argument: the media runs against the printhead on every card.
You may see HDP5000 clear film quoted as 84053 — the number many UAE suppliers and older purchase records still use. HID’s current HDP5000 specification sheet lists clear HDP film as 084500, at approximately the same 1,500 images and with the same description. HID does not publish a cross-reference between the two numbers, and its consumables sheets carry the note that part numbers may vary by region, so we do not claim one formally replaces the other. If your records say 84053, tell us and we will confirm the exact part that ships before you order.
