HID FARGO 082601 PolyGuard Overlaminate — 1.0 mil Clear, 250 Count
Genuine HID FARGO 082601 PolyGuard overlaminate: a 1.0 mil clear CR-80 patch, 250 per roll. HID’s durable overlaminate — a physical patch bonded over the finished card that improves durability and longevity well beyond what a ribbon’s overlay panel can do.
Key Features
A Patch, Not a Panel
The overlay panel on a YMCKO ribbon is a thin coating. PolyGuard is a 1.0 mil laminate patch applied by a lamination module — a different order of protection for cards that have to last years.
1.0 mil — the Thicker of the Two
HID makes PolyGuard in 0.6 mil and 1.0 mil. The 1.0 mil patch on this page is the more durable option; both come 250 to a roll.
Security Designs Available
HID states that overlaminates with standard or custom holograms create an ID card that is difficult to forge yet easy to verify. This is the clear version; 082604 is the same patch with the High Secure Orbit hologram.

- HID FARGO DTC4500e ID card printer / encoder
- HID FARGO DTC1500 ID card printer / encoder
- HID FARGO HDP5000 retransfer card printer / encoder
- HID FARGO HDP5000e retransfer card printer / encoder
- HID lists 082601 in the consumables specification sheets for the DTC4500e, the DTC1500 and the HDP5000 — one part number across three printers
- An overlaminate needs a lamination module. On the DTC4500e and DTC1500 that is a field-upgradeable option, not standard. HID also notes that PVC cards are not recommended in the DTC4500e lamination module — use composite cards such as 082136

Need-to-Know
HID publishes PolyGuard in two thicknesses and several designs. All are CR-80 patches at 250 per roll — pick by how much protection and how much visible security the card needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Check your printer’s consumables specification sheet — HID lists 082601 for the FARGO DTC4500e, DTC1500 and HDP5000. The part number is printed on the roll and on the box. You also need a lamination module fitted; on the DTC4500e and DTC1500 that is an option rather than standard. Send us a photo of your printer on WhatsApp and we will confirm both. HID writes this part number with a leading zero, 082601, but you will also see it written 82601 on invoices and supplier quotes — same overlaminate either way.
The O panel on a YMCKO ribbon is a thin protective coating applied as part of printing. PolyGuard is a separate 1.0 mil laminate patch bonded over the card by a lamination module. HID’s position is that applying an overlaminate improves card durability and longevity, and that a holographic version significantly increases card security — neither of which a coating achieves.
Both are clear CR-80 patches at 250 per roll; 082600 is 0.6 mil and 082601 is 1.0 mil. The thicker 1.0 mil gives more physical protection and is the usual choice for multi-year credentials. HID publishes no durability rating for either, so we do not quote one.
Not on the DTC4500e — HID specifically notes that PVC cards are not recommended for use in the DTC4500e lamination module and recommends composite cards instead, such as the UltraCard Premium 082136. Adhesive-backed cards are not for use with the lamination module at all.
HID states that FARGO card printers and encoders require highly specialised media to function properly, and that HID warranties are void, where not prohibited by law, when non-HID consumables are used. On a machine where the printhead is the expensive part, that is the whole argument: the media runs against the printhead on every card.
