HID FARGO 045202 Standard Resin Black Ribbon — 3,000 Images
The genuine HID FARGO 045202 Standard Resin Black ribbon prints 3,000 images of single-colour black on the FARGO DTC4500e. HID lists it for bar codes, text, serial numbers and bold graphics — more than four times the yield of the full-colour ribbon, and the cheapest way to run high-volume monochrome cards.

The DTC4500e takes three single-colour resin ribbons. All three print one panel per card; the difference is the density of the black, and one of them is not black at all.

Frequently Asked Questions
Open the printer’s ribbon bay — the part number is on the label at the end of the ribbon core and on the retail box. On a FARGO DTC4500e the standard black resin ribbon is 045202. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you order. HID writes this part number with a leading zero, 045202, but you will also see it written 45202 on invoices and supplier quotes — same ribbon either way.
The HID FARGO DTC4500e — HID lists it in that printer’s consumables specification sheet. The DTC1250e, DTC1000 and DTC4250e use the EZ cartridge equivalents 045102 (standard) and 045101 (premium), both at 1,000 images. Check the model badge before ordering.
HID publishes both at the same 3,000-image yield and describes both for bar codes, text, serial numbers and bold graphics. Premium (045201) is the denser black; Standard (045202) is the everyday option. HID does not publish a numerical density difference, so we do not quote one — if your barcodes scan reliably on Standard, there is no reason to pay for Premium.
Because a full-colour card consumes five ribbon panels — yellow, magenta, cyan, resin black and overlay — while a monochrome card consumes one. Same roll length, far more cards. If your cards are text and barcodes only, this is by far the cheapest way to print them.
HID states that FARGO card printers and encoders require highly specialised media to function properly, and that HID warranties are void, where not prohibited by law, when non-HID consumables are used. On a machine where the printhead is the expensive part, that is the whole argument: the media runs against the printhead on every card.
