HID FARGO 045102 EZ Standard Resin Black Ribbon — 1,000 Images
The genuine HID FARGO 045102 EZ Standard Resin Black cartridge prints 1,000 images of crisp, single-colour black. HID lists it for bar codes, text, serial numbers and bold graphics — the ribbon to run when a card needs to be readable and durable rather than photographic, at roughly a third of the cost per card of a full-colour YMCKO.

Frequently Asked Questions
Open the printer’s ribbon cartridge bay — the installed EZ cartridge carries its part number on the label at the end of the core, and the same number is printed on the retail box. On a FARGO DTC1250e, DTC1000 or DTC4250e, a black resin cartridge reading 045102 is this product. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you order. HID writes this part number with a leading zero, 045102, but you will also see it written 45102 on invoices and supplier quotes — same ribbon either way.
HID lists 045102 in the consumables specification sheets for the FARGO DTC1250e and the FARGO DTC4250e; it also fits the DTC1000, which shares the DTC1250e’s EZ cartridge system. It is not listed for the DTC1500, DTC4500e or the HDP retransfer printers — those use different part numbers.
A YMCKO ribbon builds its image from yellow, magenta and cyan dye-sublimation panels and adds one resin black panel for text. The 045102 is that resin black panel on its own, with no colour panels at all. Resin is fused onto the card rather than diffused into it, which gives harder edges — which is why HID specifies resin for bar codes and serial numbers.
Because a full-colour card consumes five ribbon panels — yellow, magenta, cyan, resin black and overlay — while a monochrome card consumes one. Same length of ribbon, far more cards. If your cards are text and bar codes only, this is the cheapest way to print them.
HID states that FARGO card printers and encoders require highly specialised media to function properly, and that HID warranties are void, where not prohibited by law, when non-HID consumables are used. On a machine where the printhead is the expensive part, that is the whole argument: the media runs against the printhead on every card.
