The UV edition of Canon's smallest cheque scanner, built to catch tampered and counterfeit cheques rather than to scan them in colour. Alongside its standard RGB LED, the CR-L1 UV carries a UV LED light source and a dedicated UV scan mode that authenticates anti-fraud markings and can highlight surface rubbing that suggests a cheque has been altered. It reads MICR and OCR data on every cheque, cross-checks the two, and prints an endorsement on the back with its built-in imprinter, at up to 45 cheques a minute.

In addition to the standard RGB LED, the CR-L1 UV carries a UV LED light source and a dedicated UV scan mode. Canon's own description says the UV sensors authenticate anti-fraud logos printed on cheques and can highlight surface rubbing that may indicate tampering.
MICR and OCR cross-checked on every cheque
A Canon-patented magnetic head reads MICR data from each cheque, and the same cheque is read again by OCR. The two results are compared by Canon's own algorithm before the data is accepted, cutting the transaction errors a single-read scanner would let through.
Built-in imprinter endorses as it scans
The CR-L1 UV prints an endorsement on the back of each cheque during the same pass it scans the front — characters, a date, an incremental number, a time or an arrow symbol — with no separate stamping step before the cheque is filed.

Need-to-Know
The CR-L1 UV swaps colour scanning for anti-fraud UV detection in the same compact body as the standard CR-L1; the CR-120 UV and CR-150 range add UV scanning at higher counter throughput.
- The CR-L1 UV cannot scan in colour at all. Canon's own specification reads '45cpm (B&W, Grayscale), Colour not supported' — choose the standard CR-L1 if you need colour scanning.
- USB only — there is no network or Wi-Fi connection on this model. It scans to the computer it is plugged into.
- The ink cartridge for the built-in imprinter is not included with the scanner — Canon's own footnote states it is sold separately.
- Windows only. Canon publishes no macOS driver for the CR-L1 UV, and its Windows driver list names Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 (plus Server 2008R2–2016). If you run Windows 11, ask us to confirm current driver support before you order.
