Open the front toner door on the imageFORCE and read the label on the cartridge that is already fitted — it will say C-EXV 1001 and the colour, or carry a code beginning 6137 to 6140. The touch panel also lists the fitted supplies under Status Monitor. If the label says C-EXV 1001L, or the code begins 6142, 6143 or 6144, you are on the lower-capacity colours instead. If you would rather have us check, send us the model number from the front of the machine and our UAE team will confirm it for you.

Capacity, and nothing else. The colours on this page hold 54,500 pages worth of toner; the C-EXV 1001L versions hold 24,000. Both fit the same machines and print identically — the L cartridge simply holds less. There is no C-EXV 1001L black: black is supplied only as 6137C002 at 63,000 pages, and it is on this page. If you print colour daily, the standard cartridge here is almost always cheaper per page; if you print it rarely, the L is often the sensible buy.

Yes — one cartridge, several names. Canon uses C-EXV 1001 in Europe and the Middle East, NPG-1001 in parts of Asia and GPR-1001 in the Americas, while 6137C002 to 6140C002 are the numeric order codes that appear on quotes and purchase orders. 6137C002 = Black, 6138C002 = Cyan, 6139C002 = Magenta, 6140C002 = Yellow. Codes ending "AA" are the same cartridge in regional packaging, and the GPR-1001 versions carry a C003 suffix instead of C002. The 6142, 6143 and 6144 codes belong to the C-EXV 1001L range, which is a separate listing.

The Canon imageFORCE C5140, C5150, C5160 and C5170 — Canon's imageFORCE C5100 Series. It does not fit the imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX C5800 Series (C5840i, C5850i, C5860i, C5870i), which takes C-EXV 63 instead. The two generations look very similar, so check the badge on the front panel before ordering. You will also see these models written as C5140i or C5170i by some suppliers — same machine.

Three things sit alongside the toner. The C-EXV 1001 drum unit (6141C002) is rated at roughly 600,000 mono and 420,000 colour impressions, so it is replaced far less often than toner. The WT-202 waste toner container collects surplus toner and is swapped when the panel asks. If a finisher is fitted, it takes Staple Cartridge-X1, Y1 or Z1 depending on the model. Canon rates black at 63,000 pages and each colour on this page at 54,500, at 5% coverage on A4. That 5% is roughly a text letter. Slide decks, brochures and anything with a full-bleed background use several times more toner per page, so a colour-heavy office should plan for well under the rated figure.
