Yes — an original Brother cassette, not a compatible. It matters here because fabric tape is not a sticker: the backing is heat-activated and has to bond to cloth under a household iron, and a compatible cassette is a different product that has not been through Brother's own application testing.
It depends entirely on how long your labels are and what margin the machine is set to, so any single figure would be misleading. What is fixed is the cassette length: 3 metres. As a rough guide, a 40mm label consumes about 50mm of tape once the machine's leading and trailing margins are added, so a 3m cassette gives you roughly 60 of them. Set a narrower margin in the machine's settings and you get noticeably more.
It is designed for clothing, which is the whole reason it is ironed on rather than stuck on — an adhesive label would not last a single cycle. Brother does not publish a wash-cycle count for fabric tape, so we are not going to invent one: follow the application instructions in the cassette packaging, press it properly, and give it time to cool before the first wash.
