Plain barcode labels are available in two type direct thermal or thermal transfer.
Direct Thermal labels (No ribbon required) are designed to be used with thermal printers that support direct thermal printing (without a ribbon). The ink is embedded within the labels and activated by the heated printhead.
Thermal Transfer labels (Ribbon required) are designed to be used with thermal printers that support thermal transfer printing (with a ribbon). The ink from the ribbon is transferred on label by the heated printhead.
